Kanata is a feature length documentary that brings to light the journey of the Wendat peoples.  Huron-Wendat director René Siouï Labelle seeks to connect us to the land and the people who lived along Georgian Bay and throughout the Great Lakes Region.  He follows in the footsteps of his ancestors from their prosperous agricultural and trading society to the upheaval of the arrival of foreigners to their land.  The Tionontati (known by Europeans as the Petun) of Craigleith joined with the Wendat (known by Europeans as the Huron) and left our region in 1649.  This film provides understanding from the perspective of a descendant gaining insight into Wendat identity. In French with English subtitles.  Place a hold on this title.

Indigenous History is a film produced by Mountain Goat Film Company and Craigleith Heritage Depot.  This short film introduces the thousands of years of human history in the Blue Mountains.  It is included with two other short history films.  Check out the virtual reality film Pathway as part of the series.  You travel with elder Strong White Buffalo Woman as she walks the spiritual path to the Village of the Souls at Scenic caves.
Both films will get you thinking about how this area and the footprints that have crossed the land. Place a hold on this title.
