A Staff Pick

Salma and her mom are new to Canada. They have left Syria to start a new life in their new home. New schools, classes, job interviews, and missing papa back in Syria has been difficult for both Salma and her mom, and Salma just wants to see her mother smile and be happy again. Salma decides to do something special for her mother. She wants to make her mom a Syrian meal, a sweet reminder of home. Salma finds the language barrier difficult; she doesn't have recipes and still has a hard time reading and speaking her new language and because she doesn't know where to find the spices she needs for her delicious meal. Luckily, she has the help of her new friends from the Welcome Center. This is a sweet story about community, helping one and other, kindness and finding ways to always remain positive.
