Key Messages Update is published monthly which includes items from the Board and the administration. These topics include the highlights and successes of the month, as well as the Board’s perspective on matters of importance. Key Messages for the month are presented under each of the four Strategic Plan Goals.  

Organizational Capacity, By-Laws & Governance

  • April Regular Board Meeting Cancelled: The Board will meet next for the Regular Meeting on May 20, 2021. The April 15th meeting will be a Closed Meeting to begin the discussions of Key Supporters and how this impacts the BMPL Communication Plan.

  • Quarterly Meetings between Council and Board [OC2.3]: The Meetings for 2021 have been set and the Chair, Vice Chair and CEO will meet with the Mayor, Deputy Mayor and CAO in order to begin discussions on priorities and help to further align BMPL and TBM initiatives and activities.

Communications

  • Library Outreach: Mary Dodge, A/Manager of Public Services & Community Outreach provided a presentation to the Board on Library Outreach: library outreach functions, how outreach impacts the library and community it serves, and key models to follow. The Board acknowledged that outreach will be a key factor in the success of the Strategic Planning consultation process where the BMPL Board will gather community wide input.

  • Virtual Town Hall [C2.6]: The Board decided to hold the Spring/Summer Town Hall virtually when the Annual Report of BMPL is available to review. The Fall Town Hall will most likely focus on the Strategic Planning process to be engaged in Fall 2021 through Spring 2022. 

Service Excellence

  • BMPL Assists Community with COVID-19 Vaccinations: BMPL staff are supporting the community by printing vaccination screening and registration materials. Additionally, those who have not been successful in calling the vaccination registration centre can call BMPL and our staff will assist with registering those who qualify for vaccinations online.   • Tax Clinic: CRA Registered Volunteers at BMPL are available to complete tax returns at a free contactless tax clinic for those with “modest income and simple returns”. Check out the criteria on the BMPL event calendar.

  • BMPL Continues Curbside Pick Up: BMPL will evaluate the infection rates of the community, region and neighbouring communities on March 22, which is 4 weeks from the opening of the province. Announcements will follow. Until BMPL opens our facilities for browsing, we will continue contactless curbside pickup. Additionally our Virtual Branch and Virtual Museum continue to be open 24/7 as well as virtual programs on our YouTube Channel. We encourage everyone to visit our Service Updates & COVID-19 regularly as this is our main way for updating our community on how our staff continue to pivot and provide services throughout the global pandemic.
