Leah Denbok's The Human Element
Posted by Wanda on February 29, 2016
The Human Element, an exhibit for the month of March, will showcase 15-year-old Collingwood photographer Leah Denbok. Opening reception for this photography exhibit will be on Saturday, March 5th from 1:00pm-3:00pm.
The Human Element will focus on Leah’s signature portrait style that makes use of an artistic technique called chiaroscuro, which is the strong contrast between light and dark. The technique was employed to great effect by some of the old masters, such as Rembrandt and Caravaggio. Most recently, Leah has been taking pictures of senior citizens at Sunset Manor Nursing Home in Collingwood, as well as the homeless in Toronto.
Leah began taking pictures in 2012, when she bought herself a used Canon EOS T2i. For the past three years she has been receiving private lessons from Joel Sartore, the world-famous National Geographic photographer. This is Leah's third solo exhibition. The Human Element will be exhibiting from March 4th – April 1st during regular library hours.
