Join us in The Gallery, Tuesday, May 28th at 7:00 pm, for an Arts and Culture Council presentation: "The Mine Finders", with local author and geophysicist, Dr Norman Paterson.
Hear first hand how Paterson, and a group of Canadian entrepreneurs, fostered the development of a new science, propelling Canada to world leadership in mining exploration. Paterson, who recently published “Mining Geophysics: A Canadian Story”, is the author of more than 100 technical articles, a memoir, and two novels. Told in the first person, “Mining Geophysics” is the story of Paterson’s professional life and the lives of about 150 players in an important drama that has not previously been recorded in scientific or historical literature. His book describes how these individuals, led by more than a dozen gifted pioneers, came together, and over a 30-year period, created the science of mining geophysics. Their accomplishments catapulted Canada into a global leadership role in mineral exploration. Told in the first person, he takes the reader into the bush, the laboratory, and the office, to observe how the players made things happen and how the science evolved.
