Exhibit Launch: Events for Life - A Look Around
August 31, 2021 - October 2, 2021
The Arts and Culture Council (ACC) for The Gallery at L.E. Shore is pleased to announce the launch of A Look Around featuring the works of the students at Events for Life. Events for Life is an organization that works to enrich the lives of individuals with special needs by providing educational, social and recreational day programs geared towards lifelong learning in The Town of Blue Mountains and surrounding area. Their goal is to support individuals with special needs allowing them to live, learn, and work in an integrated, inclusive community.
The students look forward to showcasing their art work and photography that celebrates nature and the world around us. We each have our own perspective and creative process that we enjoy exploring.
All purchases can be taken by phone by calling 519-599-3681 ext. 5., through email TheGallery@TheBlueMountains.ca, and in-person at the L.E. Shore Branch.
This exhibit is also available online on our Exhibits webpage.

ACC Presents: Events for Life
Join us online for the return of ACC Presents. This series took a brief pause for the summer months, but the ACC are excited to bring back this presentation series. To kick off the return, the ACC will be presenting Events for Life. Currently, Events for Life’s students are showcased in The Gallery until October 2; so, this is the perfect time to highlight all of the great work the organization is doing!
Once a special needs student reaches the age of 21, their formalized high school experience ends and many do not continue on to college, university, the trades, or find employment. Opportunities to build life skills, live independently and be engaged in leisure and social activities are limited, especially in rural communities. Events for Life fills this gap. They currently offer day programs with local recreational activities including swimming, dance and music therapy, pickle ball, Zumba and yoga! Their participants also operate a Coffee Nook that is open to the public, where they learn life skills such as menu planning, baking, customer service and basic banking, among others.
Join Shelley Higginson and Barb Weeden on our BMPL YouTube channel on Thursday, September 9, 2021 for the live premier. Watch the premier at 7:00pm or anytime afterwards at your leisure. Have a question about the presentation? Email them to TheGallery@TheBlueMountains.ca. For more information, visit our Events Calendar.

Last Day to Apply to The Gallery 2022
Applications to show in The Gallery at L.E. Shore close tomorrow! The Gallery is used for Library speaker series and other programs, so all materials must be able to be securely affixed to the walls. Pottery, jewelry, or other art forms may be considered for display in the Showcases and, when approved by the ACC as part of the annual exhibition plan, can be promoted as part of the monthly show. These shows are also available online.
Application forms for exhibiting in The Gallery can be found on our Applying to Exhibit webpage.
Participate in Our Community Consultation
Every four years The Blue Mountains Public Library approves a four-year organizational Strategic Plan. Our Strategic Plan Process was approved on May 20, 2021 by the Board including research model, timelines, and Phases of the Strategic Plan Development. For more information on this process, visit our Strategic Plan Process webpage.
As we continue our planning in Summer 2021 we will be adding various activities and events to our Events Calendar where you can provide your voice to this process. Check back often as dates and times may change due to weather. We also have surveys available, each are short and focus on a different topic or theme. You can find these on our Survey's webpage. Participate in our surveys for a chance to win coupons to local businesses in The Town of The Blue Mountains! Today and Tuesday, August 31st participate in our Arts and Culture Post-It-Note Activity as you browse the MAP exhibit, or check back later this Fall for more opportunities to share on this topic.
