Join the Library to borrow library materials. Here are some common questions about borrowing materials from the library:
Patrons may place holds, or reserve library materials. Library staff will retrieve items off the shelf or set them aside when they arrive at the library.
To place a hold in person, visit us at the library and talk to library staff.
To place a hold online, visit the library catalogue and click on Log In at the top of the page. Your login will be the full 14 digits on your library card (no spaces) and your password will be the last 4 digits of your telephone number. What is my library card number? Once you have signed in, find the item you wish to reserve, click on the title to open the full record, and choose "Place a Hold".

To place a hold by telephone, call us at 519-599-3681 ext 2.
When the item is waiting at the library, you will be notified by phone or email. The item will be held behind the circulation desk for one week. If you do not claim the item after one week, it returns to general circulation or goes to the next person on the waiting list.
Movies: 1 week, 3 renewals (provided the item is not on hold for another patron)
New Books: 3 weeks, 3 renewals (provided the item is not on hold for another patron)
Books and other print materials: 3 weeks, 3 renewals (provided the item is not on hold for another patron)
Non-circulating: reference materials, archival materials, rare books and the current issue of magazines do not circulate.
Interlibrary Loans: 5 weeks, or as set by lending institution, no renewals
Technology and other non-traditional materials: lending periods vary
If library materials are not returned by their due date, late charges apply.
Books and Magazines: $0.25 per item per day
Movies: $1 per item per day
Digital materials: no late charges apply
The maximum late fee is $5 per item. Patrons with more than $10 in charges on their account are unable to borrow items from the library.
When the library is closed, materials may be placed in the RETURN bins located at L.E. Shore Library and Craigleith Heritage Depot. To minimize damage, please be careful when placing DVDs and CDs in the drop boxes. Sorry, but materials from the Blue Mountains Public Library may not be returned to other public libraries.
