#2 The Hate U Give By Angie Thomas

Posted: by Jaydon on August 11, 2017

Hi Readers! If you haven't read this book, it's officially my favourite book and I highly recommend it! Cbc's Q did an amazing interview with Angie Thomas back in April on the recent release of "The Hate U Give" her debut novel. It's been optioned for a movie and is said to star Amandla Stenberg, Regina Hall, Russell Hornsby and Lamar Johnson.

#2 The Hate U Give By Angie Thomas

As much as all of us would like to think that racism is a thing of the past, it’s still a very real issue in our modern day society. Starr’s battle with living in two different worlds is very eye opening. Every time I read it again, I take something new from it. I’ve read it 100 times over and still love it as much as the 1st time. It’s a book that will definitely withstand the test of time. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

You might think that sixteen year old Starr Carter’s life should be simple, going to school, hanging out with friends and just being a teenager. While some of these things may be true, the others are very far from her reality. She lives her life in two completely different worlds. One where she can be herself the Starr Carter from Garden Heights, a ghetto of sorts, and the other in her very rich private school. Her best friend, Khalil, was killed by a police officer in front of her eyes. Khalil was unarmed. The others from her school speculated on his death.  Some even try to justify his murder, saying that he was a drug dealer and a gangster.  Others, going so far as to say maybe he got what he deserved.  Starr’s life had turned upside down, even with her parents and her two brothers trying to help, Khalil was still a part of her life. Starr knows nothing will bring Khalil back, but maybe she can help right that wrong.  Will Starr stand up for Khalil and fight for what’s right, or will she just stand by and let it play out?  Find out in “The Hate U Give”!

Place a hold on The Hate U Give

Happy Reading!
