#2. A Mad Wicked Folly By Sharon Biggs Waller

Happy International Women's Day everyone! I thought this would be a good book to review for this occasion. It's based on the suffragette movement in England (think the Mom in Mary Poppins)

#2. A Mad Wicked Folly By Sharon Biggs Waller

I loved this book so much! It was an amazing story about how tough it was being a girl in the early 1900s. It wasn’t long ago that all of this happened, and since then we’ve gotten the right to vote and so many other things. One of my favourite historical novels, I hope you like it as much as I did!

Victoria “Vicky” Darling aspires to be an artist. After being sent home early from her art school in France she knows it’s not going to be easy especially in early 20th century England. Women didn’t have many rights including the right to vote. Vicky knows what she wants and that’s to go to the Royal College of Art (RCA). After Vicky is arrested alongside the suffragettes while sketching their protest for her RCA application, she loses her sketchbook and all her drawings in it. When a Police Constable arrives at her doorstep with her lost sketchbook she’s overjoyed but it’s not just any Policeman, it’s the one from the protest, PC William “Will” Fletcher.

Later, after her parents find out about the protest and her art, they force her into an engagement she doesn’t want and crush her dreams of ever attending the RCA.

Vicky’s not about to abandon her love of art though, with the help of her lady’s maid (Sophie), an American suffragette she met (Lucy) and Will she’s going to get into the school no matter the cost. Find out what Vicky, Sophie, Lucy and Will have in store for them in “A Mad Wicked Folly”!

Don't forget to keep an eye out for my next review, Say What You Will By Cammie McGovern.

Happy Reading!
