Resistance, Resilience, and Restoration: Post-ISIS Iraq

Two years after liberating Iraq from ISIS, the government has passed numerous restoration bills that address the reconstruction of impacted regions and the compensation of their inhabitants. These initiatives are aimed to reintegrate impacted areas back into the national economy and restore some semblance of normalcy to civilians who suffered under ISIS. Yet, Mosul and other impacted areas remain largely in ruins. In this talk, we will explore the impact of government absenteeism, corruption, and prolonged trauma in one of the most talked about yet understudied areas in the world. This talk will highlight the historical importance of Iraq’s Northern cities and the recent devastation they have endured. We will conclude our discussion with a closer examination of local efforts to rebuild and restore impacted cities.

Tickets: $10. Available at Beaver Valley Association for Lifelong Learning spring series at L.E. Shore Library on Tuesday, March 19 and Tuesday, March 26 at 9:30am. All proceeds to displaced volunteers providing relief work to Iraqis. Website: wasel-tasel.com
