Downloading e-books to a PC or Mac computer

You can read e-books on your computer, without a device or eReader.

The Kobo Touch, Kobo Glo, Kobo Mini, and Sony e-Reader are examples of devices that connect to a computer to download e-books. The first step with these e-readers is always to download to a PC or Mac computer.

Step 1: Establish an Adobe ID

Before you can transfer e-books from your computer to your e-reader, you will need to install free software called Adobe Digital Editions and create an Adobe ID.

Go to www.adobe.com and click SIGN IN. This will take you to the Adobe login page. Click on the link to "Not a member yet? Get an Adobe ID". Fill in the required information to complete the registration form. You only need to establish your Adobe ID once.

Visit the Ontario Library Service Download Centre by OverDrive web site.

To log in, click on the "Sign In" link in the upper right-hand corner of the screen, or click on the Account icon near the top of the page. You will be prompted to choose your library (Blue Mountains Public Library), type in your 14-digit library card number (no spaces) and your PIN (the last 4 digits of your phone number). If you wish, check off Remember my login information on this device. What is my library card number?

Step 4: Borrowing and downloading an e-book

You may now read the e-book within Adobe Digital Editions or transfer to a Kobo or other dedicated e-reader.
