Archives and Research

The Craigleith Heritage Depot is pleased to offer a variety of archival and research resources to visitors upon request: books, family records, letters, microfiche, newspapers, clippings, and more. Please note that use of our resources is by donation; we appreciate your support to help us maintain the archival collection.

THE ARCHIVES ROOM

Equipped with a large work table that can seat up to 10 people, a Mac desktop computer, a microfiche reader, and shelves bursting with local history records, the Archives Room is the perfect place to dive into archival resources, or even just to get some homework done.

RESEARCH REQUESTS

Do you have a local history research question or topic in mind, but either don't know where to start or don't have the time to perform the research yourself? We can help you. Submit a research request in person, over the phone, or via email, and we will go through our records on your behalf. We can send an answer (for less rigorous requests) to you or prepare a dossier (for more detailed requests) for you to come in and read when you have time.

Please be prepared to give us as much information as possible about what you are looking for to help us with your research. You will be required to fill out and sign a Research Request Form.

INDEPENDENT RESEARCH

Do you feel comfortable perusing our records in the Archives Room on your own? Please ask a staff member for a key to access the cabinets along the South wall of the Archives Room. Please also let a staff member know if you would like to use the microfiche machine or the Mac desktop computer. We would be glad to assist you.

We kindly ask that you do not re-shelve any of the materials you use; we will put them away for you.
