Library Lines - August 11th, 2010
As supplied to the Courier Herald, Library Lines is a weekly update of what is going on at the LE Shore Memorial Library including Programs, Events and New Books.
Summer might be half over, but there are still lots of fun activities for children at the Blue Mountains Public Library. Here’s a sampling of some of the up-coming programs.
For younger children, we have a variety of story time programs lined up. “Stories under the Stars” begins in the courtyard of the L.E. Shore Memorial Library on Tuesday, August 10 at 6:30 p.m.. Bring a blanket and a flashlight and enjoy some outdoor fun.
In the spirit of our Summer Reading Club’s jungle theme, a program called “No More Monkeys” will be held in the Story Tower for children aged 6 and up on Friday, August 13 at 2:00-2:45 p.m..
And, once again, we are working with the people from the Early Years initiative to offer programs at the Story Tent in Bayview Park. There will be programs on Thursday, August 12 and 19 at 1:30 to 3:00 p.m.
International Youth Day is Thursday, August 12 and the Community for Youth Coalition (C4YC), of which the library is a member, will celebrate with a load of activities to promote the youth of the Meaford and Blue Mountains area. Events will take place at the Centre for Student Leadership, 788277 Grey Road 13, Clarksburg, from 4:00 to 11:00 p.m. The celebration features a walk to the Clendenan Dam, water games, BBQ supper, cake campfire and a movie, as well as ongoing activities including volleyball, bocce ball, cards, beading, hacky sack, music and Wii games.
Finally, we are excited to announce that we will be visiting the observatory of the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada on Thursday, August 12. We will meet at the library at 7 p.m. for an introduction by astronomer, Tony Horvatin, and then will proceed to the observatory together. This program is designed for children aged 8 and up and their parents or grandparents. Dress warmly and bring your own car, since transportation will not be provided. Our visit should coincide with the height of the annual Perseid meteor shower.
Please note that the work of Walter’s Falls artist, Peter Beckett, will be in the gallery until the end of August.
For information on these and other programs, please call the library at 519-599-3681
